SNAP DISC CONDITION SENSOR AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bimetal snap disc thermost2t is disclosed which is structured for automated assembly. Such ther~o- sta~ includes a body wi~h contact supports molded therein in a manner providing sufficient strength so that terml- nals can be riveted onto the contact suppor~s a~er assembly. The body and contact suppor~ subassembly is structured so th~t it is sy~metrical on opposite sides of a central ~xis. A disc cup is provided with axial and r~di~l surfaces which accurately locate the disc during and after ~ssembly. Also disclosed is a method of gaglng and calibrating the thermostat automatically. Calibra- tion of the spring force of the movable contact is accom- plished by sensing the force in a given position and sub- sequently deforming the spring until a predetermined force exists in such predetermined position. Gaging is accomplished by deforming a proJection from the movable contact arm until a predetermined uni$crm spacing ~s established be~ween such pro~ection and a gaglng sur~ce.
