ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A snap hook of the type having a main hook body on which a retainer is mounted by means of a pivot pin and having a latch with a locking position in which it holds the retainer in a closed position and a release position where it allows the retainer to be opened, wherein the latch is guided for rectilinear sliding on the hook body, the latch being located by engagement of an elongated aperture on the same pivot pin which mounts the retainer. A single compression spring located between the retainer and latch urges the retainer into the closed position and the latch into the locking position. Both the latch and retainer are U-shaped members formed from sheet metal, with the open end of the latch enclosing a portion of the hook body and fitting within two side plates of the retainer.
