ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hand operated snow thrower has an impeller with extensible blades. The snow thrower is of the type having a handle for being pushed by the operator. An impeller is mounted in a housing and rotatably driven by a motor. Snow is drawn in and thrown outwardly through a chute. The impeller has a blade support with a slot for receiving the blade. A wedging device fits in the slot with the blade to wedge the blade in place. The slot has converging surfaces that mate with converging surfaces of the wedging member to provide the wedging action.
