The socket mat is used for the storage of ratchet wrench sockets. It is able to store 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets, while not being restricted to a specific layout as with prior storage systems, thus enabling the user of the sockets to store sockets according to personal requirements. The mat has a series of protruding pegs on the topside. Sockets are simply pushed down onto a peg, drive end first. When needed for use, the socket is simply pulled up and off the peg. The socket mat has an interlocking design on its sides so that several mats can be fitted together to hold a greater number of sockets. This would then usually be fitted within a mechanic's tool chest drawer. The mat can also be cut down to fit within smaller drawers, or to fit within particular areas. To enable the standard mat, which accepts 1 /4" drive sockets, to receive larger drive sockets there is a shim-sleeve which can be pushed down over the standard peg. The pegs on the mat are spaced 1 1/2" apart, both lengthwise and widthwise. This allows larger sockets to be placed next to smaller sockets. The socket mat is constructed of a flexible material to give it a good feel, and is heavy enough so that mat does not move around when used in the work area.
