An openable and closeable soft-sided luggage case (10) having an external flexible panel (30), internal frame structure (22) surrounding internal cavity (38), and carrying handle (14) or a carrying strap connected to the frame structure, includes first packing compartment (50) connected to the external panel. The first compartment (50) extends into interior cavity (38) and consumes a portion of the cavity when the case is closed. The remaining portion of cavity (38) forms a second packing compartment (74). First compartment (50) includes cover member (58) which is closeable for separating the first and second compartments when the case is closed and openable for allowing access to the first compartment when the case is opened. The first and second compartments are equally accessible and available for packing. The first compartment (50) may function as a garment bag. A packing and unpacking method is also disclosed.
