A pay per use system for the prevention of the unauthorized use of computer software. An encryption program encodes original software to produce secured software. The encoding is accomplished by using cryptographic techniques. In order to use the software, a user must call a telephone number to receive the cryptographic keys necessary to decrypt the secured software. Thus, users must pay for each use of the secured software. The system allows software developers to freely distribute the secured software. Copies of the secured software may be freely made, because payment is based on each use of the software not on each copy of the software.
L'invention est un système de paiement à l'utilisation servant à empêcher l'utilisation non autorisée des logiciels. Un programme de chiffrement code le logiciel original pour produire un logiciel protégé. Le codage est effectué au moyen de méthodes cryptographiques. Quand il désire utiliser le logiciel, l'utilisateur doit composer un numéro de téléphone pour recevoir les clés cryptographiques nécessaires au déchiffrement du logiciel protégé. L'utilisateur doit donc payer pour chaque utilisation des logiciels protégés. Le système de l'invention permet aux concepteurs de logiciels de distribuer gratuitement le logiciel protégé. Celui-ci peut être copié gratuitement car le paiement est basé sur son utilisation et non sur sa duplication.
