A mast support device comprises a hollow tubular member and a screw member assembled end to end along a common longitudinal axis. The tubular member has an upper open end to receive a lower end section of a mast whereby, in operation, the screw member is driven into the soil and the lower end section of the mast is inserted in the tubular member through the upper open end thereof to thereby support the mast on the soil. The screw member is formed with an helical thread having an outer diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the tubular member. To facilitate driving of the screw member in the soil, two diametrically opposed holes are made in the upper section of the tubular member and a rod member is inserted in these two holes to serve as a lever which facilitates manual rotation of the tubular and screw members. A tubular insert may be introduced in the upper open end of the tubular member to reduce the inner diameter of the tubular member and enable that tubular member to receive a mast of smaller dimension.
