A process for energy efficient remediation of soil contaminated with hydrocarbons, including desorbing the hydrocarbon contaminants from a bed of the soil by thermal desorption in a treated desorption chamber (20) and thereafter combusting the contaminants in a thermal oxidiser (30). The combustion air for the desorption chamber and the thermal oxidiser, and the desorbed contaminants prior to admission to said thermal oxidiser, are preheated by heat exchange (40) with offgases from the thermal oxidiser. An apparatus is also disclosed, as are processes in which the separated contaminants are treated in the thermal oxidiser in at least two stages, including a combustion stage (P) in which the contaminants are combusted with a first supply of combustion air at a substantially adiabatic temperature in the range 900-1200 °C, and a second stage (a) in which a second supply of combustion air is admitted for combustion of residual compounds and for controlling the offgas outflow temperature, and a process in which the desorbed contaminants in gaseous form are at least in part combusted within the desorption chamber by controlled admission of air into the chamber above the bed to effect such combustion.

Cette invention concerne un procédé permettant de restaurer avec un rendement élevé des sols pollués par des hydrocarbures, lequel procédé consiste à désorber les polluants hydrocarbures d'un lit de sol en effectuant une désorption thermique dans une chambre de désorption traitée (20), puis à brûler les contaminants dans un dispositif d'oxydation thermique (30). L'air de combustion, que l'on envoie dans la chambre de désorption et dans le dispositif d'oxydation thermique, ainsi que les polluants désorbés, avant d'être envoyés dans ledit dispositif d'oxydation thermique, sont préchauffés par échange de chaleur (40) à l'aide des émissions gazeuses provenant du dispositif d'oxydation thermique. Cette invention concerne également un appareil, ainsi que des procédés, dans lequel les polluants séparés sont traités dans le dispositif d'oxydation thermique en au moins deux étapes, à savoir: une étape de combustion (P) où les polluants sont brûlés à l'aide d'un premier apport d'air de combustion à une température globalement adiabatique allant de 900 à 1200 DEG C; et une seconde étape (a) où un second apport d'air de combustion est envoyé afin de brûler les composés résiduels et de réguler la température de sortie des émissions gazeuses. Cette invention concerne en outre un procédé où les polluants désorbés et sous forme gazeuse sont brûlés en partie au moins dans la chambre de désorption par l'admission régulée d'air dans ladite chambre et au-dessus du lit de manière à effectuer cette combustion.
