ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A solar energy collection system incorporated in a building is disclosed. The system includes a solar energy col- lector disposed at the exterior surface of the building and including a solar absorbent body having a surface which is ex- posed to sunlight and from which solar energy absorbed by the boyd can be transmitted as sensible heat, and a panel which is transparent to sunlight and which is spaced from said surface of the absorbent body so as to define therewith a first air passageway in which air contacts at least a substantial area of said surface so that air in said passageway absorbs heat trans- mitted from said surface when the collector is in use. The passageway has an inlet and an outlet and the collector is arranged with the outlet higher than the inlet so that heated air in the passageway tends to rise by convection towards the outlet. The collector is built into an exterior wall of the building and the said panel is disposed at the exterior of the wall with the solar energy absorbent body spaced inwardly from the panel and defining therewith the first air passageway. The collector further defines a second air passageway disposed ad- jacent an inner surface of the solar energy absorbent body and the body is in the form of a flat panel disposed in a generally upright position and formed with a plurality of vertically spaced transverse openings arranged to permit transfer from the first air passageway to the second air passageway of boundary layers of heated air forming on the exposed surface of the body. Heating means is provided in the building and includes a circulation cir- cuit for a heating fluid. Heat exchange means is coupled to the solar energy collector and to the circulation circuit of the building heating means and is arranged to permit heat transfer between said heated air and said heating fluid. The return air flow conduit is coupled between the heat exchange means and the inlet of the air passageway of the solar energy collector for returning air from the heat exchange means to said passageway for recirculation.
