2091059 9221152 PCTABS00017 A solar panel (15) for use in a roof mounted array of solar panels, each panel having ridges (37, 38) protruding outwardly and adjacent to the side edges (35, 36) for receiving a standing seam cap (40) between side-adjacent panels (15b, 15a). Each solar panel (15) is formed as an integral structure having a photovoltaic module (20) an edge of which is sealed by a base substrate (30). The base substrate (30) is configured to have lipped top and bottom edges (31, 33) which interlock to form a watertight seal between top-adjacent and bottom-adjacent solar panels (15a, 15d). The solar panel array can be mounted on a roof, in place of shingles or the like, to provide environmental protection for the interior of a building.
