A solar powered variable light attenuating device includes a liquid crystal cell, a photovoltaic cell in electrical communication with the liquid crystal cell, and a light concentrator having a light absorbing surface and a light emitting surface optically coupled to the photovoltaic cell. At least a portion of light impinging on the light absorbing surface of the light concentrator is concentrated and directed through the light emitting surface to a photon- absorbing portion of the photovoltaic cell to generate a voltage. The generated voltage is used to change the liquid crystal cell from a de-energized state to an energized state in response to sunlight directed toward the photovoltaic cell.
Le dispositif d'atténuation de lumière variable solaire selon la présente invention inclut une cellule à cristaux liquides, une cellule photovoltaïque en communication électrique avec la cellule à cristaux liquides, et un concentrateur de lumière doté d'une surface d'absorption de la lumière et d'une surface électroluminescente optiquement couplée à la cellule photovoltaïque. Au moins une partie de la lumière frappant la surface d'absorption de la lumière du concentrateur de lumière est concentrée et dirigée à travers la surface électroluminescente vers une partie d'absorption de photons de la cellule photovoltaïque afin de générer une tension. La tension générée est utilisée pour faire passer la cellule à cristaux liquides d'un état éteint à un état allumé en réponse à la lumière du soleil dirigée vers la cellule photovoltaïque.
