SOLDERING IRON AND SOLDERING APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The soldering apparatus of the invention includes a soldering wire feeding mechanism for feeding soldering wire from a storage spool. The soldering wire feeding mechanism includes a motor which drives a drive wheel for engaging and transporting the soldering wire into a flex- ible feeding tube. A clutch means operated by a push but- ton disengages the soldering wire from the drive wheel, so that soldering wire may be easily withdrawn and inserted into the feeding mechanism. The feeding tube connects to the soldering iron of the invention, which has a metal guide tube through which the soldering wire extends and is fed to the soldering area. The soldering wire travels from the feeding tube to the guide tube through an intermediate sleeve to which both tubes are threaded. The guide tube is threaded into the sleeve so that its position may be adjus- ted. The free end section of the iron extends rectilin- early from a bend or curve such that the soldering wire leaving the tube is rectilinear and not bent. The guide tube extends to an optimal position, preferably 6 mm from the end of the tip, measured along the tip axis.
