Matlack Case 30 SOLID CATALYST COMPONENT FOR OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION Abstract of the Disclosure The transition metal component of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst is composed of a titanium halide deposited on a magnesium chloride support. The support is prepared by a process involving reaction of a magnesium alkanoate with an alkylaluminum dichloride in a hydrocarbon solvent and treat- ment of the magnesium chloride particles formed in the reaction with a hydrocarbon solvent and with an electron donor, preferably an aliphatic ether.
