A solid electrolyte containing a gelled mixture of a matrix polymer, a reactive monomer, an organic solvent component and an alkali metal salt electrolyte, wherein the matrix polymer is a polysaccharide derivative and the reactive monomer is a mixture of two or more multifunctional monomers, as well as a solid electrolyte battery containing it. A battery comprising a laminate of active substance-bound positive and negative electrodes, respective collectors for the positive and negative electrodes, and an electrolyte, as well as a sealing material to seal the laminate, wherein either or both the positive electrode and negative electrode has an increased void percentage obtained by partial removal of the organic binder binding the active substance. To accomplish removal of the organic binder, the positive or negative electrode bound with the organic binder of which a portion is to be removed by dissolution is treated with a liquid in which the organic binder is soluble.
