ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a solid state color imaging apparatus for use in a compact color video camera, for example, in a horizontal direction, the color filter has two segments for each picture element of the solid state image sensor and the pattern of color segments is repeated with a period of two picture elements. The sums of the low frequency components of the output signals from the two picture elements are made equal for all lines of the picture elements. In odd numbered lines, four color segments for the horizontal two picture elements may be magenta, cyan, green and yellow in regularly recurring sequence and in the even order lines, magenta, yellow, green and cyan in regularly recurring sequence. Thus, high resolution, good uniformity of brightness and good S/N ratio are attainable.
