An all solid state battery power source which operates efficiently at room temperature. The battery includes a solid state proton conductor electrolyte (14), an anode active material (10) based on an aromatic organic compound capable of producing protons and electrons in an anodic reaction during battery discharge and a solid cathode (12) capable of reacting with protons. The active materials can be chosen so that the battery has the feature that the electrochemical reactions are at least partially reversible. It is suitable for electronic consumer products, biomedical applications, electric vehicle applications, and the like. The battery can be fabricated in any desired shape without any special production precausions.
Source de puissance constituée par une pile totalement solide fonctionnant efficacement à température ambiante. La pile comprend un électrolyte solide conducteur de protons (14), un matériau actif d'anode (10) à base d'un composé organique aromatique pouvant produire des protons et des électrons dans une réaction anodique pendant la décharge de la pile et une cathode solide (12) pouvant réagir avec des protons. Les matériaux actifs peuvent être sélectionnés de telle façon que la pile présente une caractéristique de réversibilité au moins partielle des réactions électrochimiques. Elle s'adresse à des produits électroniques de consommation, à des utilisations biomédicales, à des mises en application dans un véhicule électrique entre autres. On peut fabriquer la pile en toute forme souhaitée sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'observer des précautions particulières dans la production.
