ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A solid-state switching circuit employing photon coupling is controlled by a control signal. A control portion of the circuit includes at least one light-emitting diode and a load current portion is formed on a dielectrically isolated substrate. The load current portion has a light- activated silicon controlled rectifier, the switching operation of which is controlled by photons emitted from a light-emitting diode. A transistor and a resistor are connected in parallel between the gate and cathode of the light-activated rec- tifier in parallel. A photodiode is connected between the base and the emitter of the transistor and a diode is connected between the electrode connected to the n-base layer and the gate of the rectifier. This photodiode is also activated by photons emitted from a light-emitting diode.
