The present invention relates to a method for cleaning the surface of materials such as particularly stone, glass, steel, ceramics, wood, paper or cardboard, of the type implementing a laser beam (9) which is focused to the surface to be cleaned, characterized in that the ''peak power'' of the laser used to this effect is adjusted to a value comprised between a few hundred of kilowatts and a few tens of megawatts, the diameter of the laser beam (9) on the surface to be cleaned being selected so as to obtain on this surface a ''peak power'' density comprised between a few tenths of megawatts per cm<2> and a few tens of megawatts per cm<2>. The field of the invention is particularly restauration of art works, whether it be historical monuments, wooden furniture, glass works or pottery, and also the field of cleaning tubes during their manufacture or subsequent descaling
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de nettoyage de la surface de matériaux, telles que particulièrement de la pierre, du verre, de l'acier, de la céramique, du bois, du papier ou du carton, du type mettant en oeuvre un faisceau laser que l'on focalise sur la surface à nettoyer, caractérisé en ce qu'on règle la "puissance crête" du laser utilisé à cet effet à une valeur comprise entre quelques centaines de kilowatts et quelques dizaines de mégawatts, le diamètre du faisceau laser sur la surface à nettoyer étant choisi de façon à obtenir sur cette surface une dentisé de "puissance crête" comprise entre quelques dizièmes de megawatts par cm2 et quelques dizaines de mégawatts par cm.
