ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composition and process are useful for providing a corrosion resistant and lacquer receptive coating on the surface of drawn and ironed tin coated cans. The surface is contacted with an aqueous solution of tin containing ions, phosphate and an aromatic nitro compound at pH 1.5 to 3.5 preferably by spray application.
