ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed a method for selectively recovering metal ions and metal complexes from aqueous feed streams, containing high solid loadings. The invention requires the use of a metal chelating agent contained within an organic phase to be combined with the feed stream in such a manner as to permit the formation of the desired metal complexes within the organic phase. Recovery of the organic phase from the feed stream is achieved through the use of non- plugging and/or fouling disengagement devices. The system further provides for improved recovery economics of metals in feed streams requiring extensive neutralization, by permitting the use of lower cost neutralizing agents, which will form solids in the solvent extraction unit.
