SONAR DEVICE Abstract A sonar system comprising a cylindrical transducing unit on which are mounted relatively highly directional transducers in a thinned array, the transducers being positioned such that the receive surfaces of transducers on adjacent staves are angled away from each other by an angle .alpha. greater than 0° , and having a transmit receive circuit adapted to combine the signals received by transducers on neighboring staves and combine the signals into a "phantom" beam.
