ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of managing a telecommunication subnetwork system composed of a number of network elements coupled together through an optical medium to form a Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) ring. Each of the network elements receives upon initiation or reconfiguration and then stores an identical ring table or knowledge database that is composed of data in a predetermined format and structure. The ring table defines the ring type and ring identification, number of nodes, ring status, node identification, sequence, and status, and provides ring provisioning tables and embedded SONET ring path identification/status information. The ring table is utilized in each of the network elements for provisioning and other management type functions common within a SONET ring environment.

ABREGE DE LA DIVULGATION L'invention est une méthode de gestion de sous-réseaux de télécommunication constitués d'une pluralité d'éléments de réseau couplés ensemble par un support optique pour former un anneau de réseau optique synchrone (SONET). Au moment d'une initialisation ou d'une reconfiguration, chacun de ces éléments reçoit et stocke une table d'anneaux ou une base de données qui est la même pour tous et qui est constituée de données ayant un format et une structure prédéterminés. Cette table d'anneaux définit le type et l'identité des anneaux, le nombre de noeuds, l'état des anneaux, l'identité , la suite et l'état des noeuds, et fournit des tables d'approvisionnement des anneaux ainsi que des informations sur l'identité/état des trajets internes de l'anneau SONET. Elle est utilisée dans chacun des éléments de réseau pour les fonctions d'approvisionnement et d'autres fonctions de gestion associées à un environnement d'anneau SONET.
