Sorting apparatus comprises a grate in which a plurality of elongate bars are supported by a frame, with adjacent bars defining an angle between one another, so that the grate defines apertures which in size from a first end to a second end of the grate. The grate is suspended above a set of hopper and caused to vibrate by means of a vibratory motor, so that particulate material deposited on the grate is classified by size.
