ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A microphone channel is constructed from a pair of unidirectional microphone elements mounted back-to-back for monitoring sound coming from a predetermined area of space. The output signals of each microphone element are converted to D.C. logarithmic signals which are compared for gating an electrical-output signal of a microphone element to the out- put/amplifying system.
