A sound damping and sealing system for the tail gate of a dump truck is described. The system comprises a seal of rubber material or the like secured to one of opposed vertical rear edges of opposed side walls of an open-top end box of the truck. The rubber seal can also be disposed vertically on opposed sides of an inner wall of the tail gate of the truck. The seals are aligned with a projection which is disposed for facial contact with the seal and secured to either the opposed side walls of the box or the opposed sides of the inner wall of the tail gate. This sealing arrangement can also be provided along the rear edge of the bottom wall of the box and the lower edge of the inner wall of the tail gate.
