Abstract A sound-damping material for underwater use includes a layer of solid material having a thickness of at least 1 cm and an open structure. The material has open alveole structures of 2-20 alveoles per centimeter which, in use, are filled with water. The front surface of the material is preferably structured with crests and troughs. A reticulated polyurethane foam material is suitable for this purpose.
