A portable and wearable sound recordable and playable device (10) comprising an electronic module (14) that provides audio recording and playback functions and that includes at least one integrated circuit (18) having associated memory storage, a microphone (36) and a speaker (38), and a power source (22); a bulbous portion (24) that substantially encapsulates the electronic module (14) and that is configured so that the device has a substantially continuously contoured outer surface that is free of any display; and one or more exposed user controls (40) that signally communicate with the electronic module (14) and penetrate through the bulbous portion (24).
