ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A core structure for a dynamoelectric machine is formed of a stack of laminations and, at spaced intervals in the stack, air passages are provided by having one lamination with space blocks mounted on one side to separate adjacent laminations. It is current practice to use space blocks of stainless steel, carbon steel and sometimes bronze, and to weld or braze the space blocks to a lamination. This sometimes resulted in distortion due to differential expansion. The space blocks of the invention may be of lighter material such as aluminum; they are preferably cylindrical in shape. A projection on the base of a space block extends through a hole in the lamination. The region around the hole in the lamination is deformed into a recessed portion in the base of the space block surrounding the projection. This leaves a depression in the lamination on the side opposite the space block. The end of the projection is deformed, as by rivetting, and the end is received in the depression to leave a flush surface.
