A ring to be employed with couplings and such fittings as are already in use in plumbing installations. The ring, having protruding lugs for spacing is, in use, inserted over the end of a pipe which is to be fitted into a coupling. The ring, so spaced from the coupling, increases attraction for molten solder deposited in the immediate vicinity of the fitting. Retention of this solder allows it to penetrate deeper into the fitting. Extra solder which remains between the ring and the coupling hardens to further seal and reinforce the joint.
