ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The present invention discloses an extruded permeable rope of desiccant material for insertion into a hollow rigid spacing tube for a multiple pane sealed glazing unit. There is also disclosed a method for fabricating such a rope which comprises the steps of mixing a desiccant filler material and an uncured permeable flexible organic binder at a first temperature below the curing temperature of the binder to obtain a stock uncured mixture, extruding the stock mixture to a desired shape at a second temperature below the curing temperature to obtain an extruded uncured mixture, and curing the extruded mixture at a third temperature above the curing temperature so as to activate substantial cross-linking of the binder and thereby obtain an extruded cured mixture constituting the rope.
