Methods and apparatus are provided for determining a characteristic of a sample of a material by the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with the sample. The apparatus includes a source of electromagnetic radiation, an optical assembly and a detector. The optical assembly sequentially illuminates a plurality of volume elements in the sample with an intensity distribution in the sample that drops off substantially monotonically from a first region in a first optical path and collects electromagnetic radiation emanating from each of the volume elements. The optical assembly collects the electromagnetic radiation emanating from each of the volume elements with a collected distribution that drops off substantially monotonically from a second region in a second optical path. The first and second regions at least partially overlap in each of the volume elements. The detector detects the collected electromagnetic radiation emanating from each of the sequentially illuminated volume elements to produce responses representative of the characteristic in each of the volume elements.
Cette invention se rapporte à des procédés et à un appareil permettant de déterminer une caractéristique d'un échantillon de matière au moyen de l'interaction d'un rayonnement électromagnétique avec l'échantillon. Ledit appareil comporte une source de rayonnement électromagnétique, un ensemble optique et un détecteur. Ledit ensemble optique éclaire en séquence une pluralité d'éléments volumiques dans l'échantillon de sorte que la distribution de l'intensité dans l'échantillon chute de manière sensiblement monotone à partir d'une première région d'un premier chemin optique et il recueille le rayonnement électromagnétique émanant de chacun des éléments volumiques. L'ensemble optique perçoit le rayonnement magnétique émanant de chacun des éléments volumiques avec une distribution perçue qui chute de manière sensiblement monotone à partir d'une seconde région d'un second chemin optique. Les première et seconde régions se chevauchent au moins partiellement dans chacun des éléments volumiques. Le détecteur détecte le rayonnement électromagnétique perçu émanant de chacun des éléments volumiques éclairés en séquence de manière à produire des réponses représentatives de la caractéristique de chacun des éléments volumiques.
