ABSTRACT A vaccine for protecting swine against trans- missible gastroenteritis (TGE) is prepared from a specific antigenic protein (SPA) obtained by separation from TGE virus. m e SPA is characterized by a buoyant density of 1.02 to 1.03 gm/ml in a solution of sucrose and an Rf value of approximately 1.84 relative to human serum albumin. The vaccine may be prepared in parenteral dose form for administration to pregnant sows, thereby effec- tively protecting the baby pigs against fatal TGE infec- tion.
