Objects are sorted according to specific gravity by illuminating the objects with near-infrared light with different wavelengths. Measurement of the light absorbed by each object at the different wavelengths permits a dry matter content of the object to be determined. Specific gravity can then be determined using a predetermined correlation between dry matter content and specific gravity. A sorting mechanism responsive to determination of specific gravity by the controller separates the food objects into at least two different groups corresponding to different specific gravity
L'invention permet de trier des objets en fonction de leur gravité spécifique en éclairant ces derniers avec une lumière infrarouge à différentes longueurs d'ondes. En mesurant la lumière absorbée par chaque objet aux différentes longueurs d'ondes, on peut déterminer la teneur en matière sèche de l'objet. On peut ensuite déterminer la gravité spécifique par le biais d'une corrélation prédéterminée entre la teneur en matière sèche et la gravité spécifique. Un mécanisme de tri sensible à la détermination de la gravité spécifique effectuée par le contrôleur sépare les objets alimentaires en au moins deux groupes différents correspondant à une gravité spécifique différente.
