ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A speech to noise discriminator for analyzing a low-frequency signal and distinguishing the presence of speech comprises n bandpass filters (where n is at least equal to 3) centered respectively on three fre- quencies of the speech signal band; the filters are followed respectively by n detection and integration circuits which therefore produce signals having an amplitude Ai (i = 1, 2 ... n) which is representative of the mean amplitude of the signal to be analyzed within the bands of the n filters comparison means determine whether the ratios Aj/Al (with j = 2, 3 ... n) satisfy predetermined linear equations and thus make it possible to distinguish the presence of speech in the signal to be analyzed.
