ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A jig has a pair of clamps for holding two speed skate blades in sharpening position extend from one end of the jig to the other, and are supported adjacent each other within a frame. Only one clamp of each pair of clamps is movable, and this is the interior clamp. The clamps preferably have a smooth continuous upper surface that extends beyond a typical blade length and a narrow edge of uniform thickness along the clamp for gripping a speed skate blade. The interior clamps preferably are provided with guides at each end and are moved in relation to the fixed exterior clamps using a bolt that threads into the guides. The clamps have transverse edges for gripping a speed skate that are much smaller than a speed skate blade. Adjacent clamps of a pair are preferably contoured to merge towards each other in the center to provide a progressive clamping action from the center outward. Supports on either end of the jig are preferably splayed outward and downward from the bolts to form a stable sharpening surface. A speed skate sharpening stone is formed of non-magnetic material having at least one planar surface a diamond grit coating applied to the planar surface. The stone is preferably formed of aluminum, with a brass covering on the planar surface, the diamond grit being adhered to the brass covering. In the case of a side stone, the block includes a finger recess. In the case of a top stone, there are two such blocks along with locating means to hold the blocks in a fixed position in relation to each other with the first and second planar abrasive surfaces lying in substantially the same plane. The first and second planar abrasive surfaces are preferably bordered on opposed sides by parallel ridges extending out of the respective planes of the surfaces so as to guide the stones. The locating means preferably includes a pair of rods, and each of the blocks includes first and second bores for slidably receiving respective ends of the rods with means to fasten the blocks on the rods.
