Abstract A spherical cock has a ball-shaped, metallic or ceramic stopcock arrayed with loose or fixed axle-end pivots or floatingly arrayed within a casing. The stopcock centres itself in the longitudinal and vertical axis between metallic or ceramic surfaces of two seating frames. These frames are mounted in the valve casing so that the spherical surface of the stopcock bears directly on said surfaces of said frames without the use of soft packing. The sealing surfaces of the stopcock and those of the frames are coated or tempered to be hard and to have high abrasion resistance.
