A pair of spherical gears connects the intersecting shafts of a CV-joint. One gear has internal teeth, and the other has external teeth. The gear design is based on pitch circles that are great circles on theoretical pitch spheres that are concentric and have identical radii. The internal teeth are either conically or spherically shaped, while the external tooth faces are cylindrical with tangential flat extensions. The spherical gears are shown on half-shafts. The preferred embodiments have six teeth on each gear, and one preferred embodiment also uses balls for the internal teeth. The gears, while rotating at high speeds under load, can intersect throughout a continuous maximum range of 60° or more in any direction.

L'invention porte sur un joint homocinétique comportant une paire d'engrenages sphériques à axes convergents. L'un des engrenages présente des dents internes et l'autre des dents externes. La conception de l'engrenage se base sur des grands cercles de pas disposés sur des sphères concentriques de pas théorique et de rayon identique. Les dents internes sont coniques ou sphériques, tandis que les faces des dent externes sont cylindriques avec des extensions tangentielles planes. Les engrenages sphériques sont montés sur des demi-arbres. Les exécutions préférées ont six dents sur chaque engrenage et une exécution préférée utilise également des billes pour les dents internes. Les engrenages, tout en tournant à grande vitesses sous de fortes charges peuvent se couper sous des angles continus de 60° ou plus dans toutes les directions.
