A toxin comprising an isolated derivative or analogue of an invertebrate specific neurotoxin, .delta.-Latroinsectotoxin (.delta.-LIT). The toxin is formed by expressing, in a bacterial host, a nucleotide sequence corresponding to a truncated form of a gene from the genome of the Black Widow Spider. The gene encodes for a non-toxic precursor protein, whilst the truncated form encodes for an active toxin.
L'invention se rapporte à une nouvelle toxine comprenant une dérivé ou un analogue d'une neurotoxine spécifique d'un invertébré, la .delta.-Latroinsectotoxine (.delta.-LIT). La toxine se développe par l'expression, dans un hôte bactérien, d'une séquence nucléotidique correspondant à une forme tronquée d'un gène issu du génome de la Veuve noire. Le gène code pour une protéine précurseur non toxique alors que la forme tronquée code pour une toxine active.
