ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a manually operable tool attached to a measure for taking ullage in tanks or the like comprising a body having two (2) plates secured and spaced by a spiral member, and a floating member which moves along the spiral member from the lower plate to the upper plate when the tool is lowered into a tank or like and breaks the liquid surface. Means are also provided to signal the fact that the tool has broken the liquid surface.
