ABSTRACT A centrifugal pump has an impeller and a casing for the impeller. The casing includes a sheet metal annular member which defines a volute chamber and has a central opening. The casing further includes two sheet metal housing sections which are disposed on opposite sides of the annular member. Each of the housing sections has an annular positioning portion which engages the central opening of the annular member to position the annular member. The outer diameters of the positioning portions are essentially equal to the diameter of the central opening and equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the impeller.
