ABSTRACT A do-it-yourself spiral staircase with a central column from a hollow steel tube, which extends between a base on a lower floor and a landing plate or end tread on an upper floor of a dwelling or office building. On the central column are arranged individual treads between which spacer sleeves can be arranged. The steel tube is divided into two tubular sections, of which one portion is arranged for shortening on site to adjust the total height of the spiral staircase to the desired length, while the other part is fixedly secured with a short tubular sleeve, which is telescopically connectable with the shortened end of the other part. In order to fixedly secure the telescopically interengaged tubular portions, at least one bore is provided which passes perpendicularly to the tubular parts. Into the bore is engaged under pre-stressing a highly tempered locking pin or a split sleeve under elastic pre- stressing.
