68572-367 ABSTRACT A machine part assembly comprised an annulus having an axially splined throughbore and an annular groove formed circumferentially around the interior of the throughbore. A shaft having a splined free end is slidably received in the throughbore so that the splines intermesh with each other and so that the end of the shaft overlies said groove. The shaft and the annulus are then fixedly secured to each other by deforming the end of the shaft radially outwardly so that a portion of the deformed shaft end enters and at least partially fills the groove.
