ABSTRACT An improved splitter and blade guard assembly is provided with an upwardly projecting guide member and an extension bracket defining a guide slot for receiving the guide member. Preferably, the splitter also includes a leg having a projecting foot defining a notch between the foot and the bottom of the splitter whereby the leg may be disposed within a slot in the mounting plate with the notch receiving a portion of the mounting plate. Further, the mounting plate includes a tab angled downwardly at one side of the slot for engaging a side of the foot.
