A prophy chip comprising a hollow cup-shaped core of canopy (semispherical), cylindrical, cupped, conical, inverted conical, or disk profile, covered with a hydrophilic grindstone sponge containing a polishing agent, the hydrophilic grindstone sponge side edge either being press fixed by being folded into the interior of the core by a shank-equipped latch plate or contoured for gripping, a shaft fixed to avoid vibration around the latch plate bottom surface rotation axis during rotation, thereby providing a cleaning, polishing, and burnishing prophy chip which maintains polishing efficiency without involving transverse oscillations in polishing barrel-shaped tooth clearances or adjacent surfaces and without requiring a polishing gel or paste due to improved dissipation of heat generated by friction.

L'invention concerne un copeau prophy, qui comprend un noyau creux en forme d'entonnoir de type auvent (semisphérique), cylindrique coupelle, conique, cône pointe en haut ou disque, recouvert d'une éponge hydrophile en calcaire ferreux contenant un agent de polissage, le bord latéral de ladite éponge étant soit fixé par pression par pliage à l'intérieur du noyau au moyen d'un plateau support de prisonniers équipé d'une tige, soit ondulé à des fins de préhension. Un arbre est fixé de manière à éviter une résonance autour de l'axe de rotation de la surface de fond du plateau support de prisonniers, pendant la rotation, ce qui donne un copeau prophy à nettoyer, polir et brunir qui conserve son efficacité de polissage sans entraîner des oscillations transversales dans des intervalles dentaires en forme de tonneau ou des surfaces adjacentes, sans utilisation de gel ou de pâte à polir, et qui génère moins de chaleur due au frottement.
