Abstract of Disclosure A spreader control apparatus is disclosed for use with a mobile spreader for granular material having holding means for a supply of the material, means to distribute the material over the area to be spread and variable speed con- veyor means to carry the material from the holding means to the distribution means. The control apparatus includes sensor means for detecting the speed of the conveyor means and the speed of the spreader along the ground and providing signals to a control means for providing a control signal in response thereto, and selector means for adjusting the control signal according to a desired spread width, the specific weight of the material to be spread, the desired rate of application of the material, and the configuration of the particular spreader with which the control apparatus is being used, respectively, and means coupled to the variable speed conveyor means to vary the speed thereof in response to the control signal, to maintain the desired rate of application of the material in accordance with the setting of the selector means. The apparatus also includes means for bringing the conveyor means to a complete stop whenever the ground speed is zero, warning means to indi- cate to the operator when the conveyor means is running at excessive speed, and means to unload the material when the spreader is standing still, and an area counter.
