A voice prosthesis (10) that is formed of a soft, elastomeric body (14) containing a spring loaded ball valve, preferably a non-impervious, smooth ball (20) such as a ruby ball biased by a flat helical spring (18) against a seat (32) mounted in a rigid cartridge (12).
