A connector for a spring brake actuator comprises a threaded bolt (78) having at least one flat portion (100) on an outer surface thereof, a nut (79) having a threaded central aperture threaded onto the bolt (78) and an embossment (108) on the nut (79), extending inwardly of the central aperture to frictionally engage the flat portion (100) of the bolt (78), so that the embossment (108) prevents rotation of the nut (79) with respect to the bolt (178). A method for fixedly attaching a nut onto a bolt comprises forming a flat portion (100) on an outer surface of the bolt (78), threading the nut (79) onto the bolt (78) in alignment with the flat portion (100), and pressing inwardly of the nut (79) with a punching tool (122) to cause a portion of the material (100) of the nut to extend inwardly of the central aperture forming an embossment (108) in engagement with the flat portion (100) on the bolt (78) to hold the nut (79) rigid with respect to the bolt (78).
