A spring-type brake actuator for a pneumatically-operated vehicle brake is provided, with a brake actuator spring located on a front side of the actuator's intermediate flange, between a service brake actuator and a parking brake release actuator. The spring is captured between the intermediate flange and a retaining plate which is connected to the parking brake release actuator via a shaft through the intermediate flange. Because the retaining plate and parking brake release actuator are connected to one another on opposite sides of the intermediate flange, spring expansion is checked, thereby increasing safety during actuator production and servicing by virtually eliminating the potential for uncontrolled spring energy release. The actuator configuration also reduces structural loads on the rear portion of the housing and shifts spring and housing weight closer to the vehicle brake, permitting simpler designs and use of alternative materials, such as plastic or aluminum to lower costs.

La présente description concerne un actionneur de frein à ressort conçu pour un frein pneumatique de véhicule. Le ressort de l'actionneur de frein est installé sur une face avant de la bride intermédiaire de l'actionneur, entre un actionneur de frein de service et un actionneur de desserrage de frein de stationnement. Le ressort est monté entre la bride intermédiaire et une plaque de retenue qui est reliée à l'actionneur de desserrage de frein de stationnement par un arbre qui traverse la bride intermédiaire. La plaque de retenue et l'actionneur de desserrage de frein du stationnement étant reliés l'un à l'autre sur les côtés opposés de la bride intermédiaire, la détente du ressort est contrôlée. Cette caractéristique renforce la sécurité lors du travail et de l'entretien de l'actionneur, car elle supprime quasiment le risque de détente incontrôlée du ressort. La configuration de l'actionneur réduit aussi les charges structurales appliquées sur la partie arrière du logement et rapproche le ressort et le logement du frein du véhicule, ce qui simplifie la conception et l'utilisation de matériaux de remplacement meilleur marché, tels que le plastique ou l'aluminium.
