\ ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A spring return for a cover includes a casing for insertion into the open end of a conventional roller pipe, a normally extended helical spring mounted in the casing and a cord with one end being attached to a bushing in the end of the spring and then extending through the spring and out an opening in the other end of the casing and the open end of the roller pipe to a fixed point on the closed side of the opening, so that rolling of the cover onto the roller pipe tensions the spring and, when the cover is released, the spring pulls the roller and cover to the closed position. The normally extended helical spring can be replaced with a normally compressed helical spring with one end attached to the casing, so that rolling of the cover causes expansion, i.e. tensioning of the spring.
