ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An adjustable coil seat is provided which utilizes the combination of a plurality of parallel rows of sinuous springs which are connected at opposite ends of the frame, at least one row of tapered conical coil springs in transverse relation to the sinuous springs and positioned in supporting relationship under the sinuous springs at a location between the ends of the sinuous springs, and a rigid cross-support beam structure which supports the bottom end of the tapered coiled springs. The cross support structure may be of adjustable height to vary pretension of the spring mechanism.
